Angelos Balamis of Angelos Créations Olfactives final release of 2025 is the remarkable E-lectron, a unique and elegant take on the classic amber genre, composed in a way that you have never experienced before. Drawing on memories from the amber resin fossils checkers on his grandfather’s backgammon board and his worry beads, he merges these olfactive memories with his favourite aspects of classic amber accords. I first smelled E-lectron on Christmas Eve last year and it lingered in my mind for days after. This is a kaleidoscopic amber with magnetism.

Invigorating and complex scents swirl over your skin as E-lectron opens, smelling inviting and delicious. Black currant fruity aromas are chilled by an aromatic cardamom as a kiss of apricot gives a playful feel to E-lectron. It’s juicy and refreshing with a dark, rich sweetness that’s balanced by dusty woody warm spices. Black pepper skillfully seasons the fruits drawing out more tasty facets, with a dusting of dried coriander that cleverly foreshadows the subtle incense smokiness revealed at the  drydown of Angelos Créations Olfactives E-lectron. The way the spices play with the fruits makes E-lectron feel like warm skin caressed by a breeze as things start to slowly shift letting more gourmand facets feel flirtatious. As a counterpoint, whispers of classic amber resins linger in the back forming a structure and rhythm for the sweet, spiced melody to play over. Elemi’s fresher facets add flickers of green to the spiced tones and deep rich fruits while bringing subtle incense-like notes out. This gives E-lectron a dry airy feel, almost musky, in an ancient way, cleverly balanced by fresher sweeter facets making it feel very contemporary, with a wink of something wild lurking in the mix.

Sweet clover blooms as E-lectron dries down, its honeyed hay-like take over from the fruits, smelling almost caramelised, all handled deftly. The openings spices mellow into a dry tobacco while immortelle add a darkly cooked brown sugar sweetness, condensing the fruits and spices of the opening into a hazy richness. Perfumer Angelos Balamis shows off his skills with soft floral contrasts that give E-lectron an ethereal elegance. That apricot from the opening shifts into a more floral osmanthus adding a suede like facet to the amber, imagine warm wisps of smoke from the embers of the spices forming over the amber resins smooth surface. Powdery iris enhances E-lectron, adding a vintage vibe while enriching its velvety texture with more elegance as it weaves its way into the muskier elements.

A delicate dose of ambrarome has been making E-lectron purr in a sexy way from the get-go, a tease across the room, quietly flirting with you, letting delicious cacao draw you closer to feel it’s powdery furs before cool ambered spices sink their claws gently into your skin, never letting you forget. The cacao and iris facets are rather magic here, its aroma is opulent and dark, dusty almost at its edges with a sweeter swirl of white chocolate and tonka bean as patchouli brings out a cake-like facet as you get closer to the skin. This chocolate note has been catching me off guard while wearing E-lectron.  It makes others notice you, yet it’s doesn’t feel obviously like chocolate as it’s paired with a dry bran note giving a savoury edge. In the air it s one you try to chase but as soon as you think you know E-lectron, it changes, seducing you in new ways. The bran gives a golden amber hue to the perfume with a subtle sheep’s wool warmth and touch of waxiness from cistus adding to the textures. Sandalwood enhances E-lectron’s contrasts with a sour creamy woodiness that gives an amber fossil heart its sleek texture. The combination of osmanthus, iris and musks adds a light floral freshness that gives the sensation of sun rays glistening through an ancient amber fossil. It works cleverly in contrast to the drier velvet smoke elements that rises from dark resins. That sleek amber texture and gentle musky haze add depth and fuzzy complexity. E-lectron’s traditional amber take hold, while still maintaining its distinctive qualities.

I know I keep talking about E-lectron in gourmand terminology, but wearing it feels far from gourmand. It stays dry and musky almost like golden incense smoke that cloaks its amber heart, one that reveals its beauty as you get more up close and personal. It’s both airy and dreamy, yet there’s an earthiness to keep you grounded. The combination of all these contrasts handled with a delicate touch makes E-electron feel special and oh so distinctive. Angelos Balamis has created his amber in a way that is uncanny, his compositional use of materials builds an amber accord that feel familiar yet it so not. E-electron is kaleidoscopic, shimmering with fruits, flowers and dark resins… it’s his amber and smells magical.
