Thursday scent of the day 4/9 :: Now Smell This

Today I decided to put Papillon Epona against CBIHP A Room with a View. (Why yes, I have been on a violet kick lately, even have Monsillage violet soap in my shower right now.) It’s interesting to smell violet done so differently. I’m going to have to stack up Viole Nere against Room with a View next, as I decide what I need an FB of.

For the hay note in both, I am pairing with the killdeer, which I always remember from the fields on my grandfather’s farm. He would find a nest in one of his fields, and then show us how the mom would draw us away from the birds by acting injured. I miss my grandfather. My aunt just let us know that they’re looking into hospice care for my grandmother…I don’t think she’s actively sick (except for a cold recently), but she’s in her late 90s and just slowing down. Sooner rather than later, the farm will be sold and it will become a housing development, and there will be no more killdeer there.

In other depressing bird news, I read an article in The Guardian this morning that whole large populations of emperor penguin chicks are being drowned due to the warmer climate and they were just skipped ahead two levels to endangered status. I was shocked — had no idea.

But, we’ve had a warm and sunny week here, so I am going to try to enjoy the weather — and the finches and chickadees outside my house — while I can, before we go back to another two months of rain.
