In Astra was founded in 2020 Fabiola Bardelli, creative director, and her sister perfumer Sofia Bardelli, together they capture the timeless allure of the stars in perfume. Each wear is like a new night experiencing the stars above us. As the compositions develop, they conjure diverse emotions, from the initial brightness of the star to the soft light that reaches us millions of miles away.

Bright sparks of pink pepper flicker from tropical creamy florals like fireworks in a summer’s night sky as In Astra Antares opens. You feel its cool heat radiate around you with excitement as the pink pepper sizzles with a spicy fruity sweetness flickering with green tones as the spices pop. Perfumer Sofia Bardelli uses pink pepper in Antares in a stunning way as it adds  lightness to the heavier denser florals and amber notes that are blooming below. It also foreshadows the sleek silky flower petals emphasising the creamy milk aspects of Antares while giving a counterpoint of  spice to the much more sensual blossoms. The tuberose has teeth in the mouth of this purring sexy beast.

The blossoms of tuberose and frangipani unfurl enveloping you in a carnal sensuality that feels wild as the pink pepper purrs. Its spiced bite and nails sink into the silky petals and never let go giving Antares a subtle animalic wildness. Almost like eyes glinting and never letting your gaze go. Tuberose turns things heady, pulling the spiced warmth into its petals turning the silkiness into a crushed velvet. Imagine that gentle texture slowly and lightly being drawn across your naked skin. Tuberose’s own subtle spices tease out more of the green facets with rich balsamic winking at the amber base you start to feel glowing below. Before that Antares gives us more frangipani floral fun. A gentle waxiness takes that crushed velvet feels and smears it into a body warmed soft silk. It pushes the tropical aroma out more with tuberose feeling like that sensation of sunned skin in the evening. The florals narcotic facets are tamed by the creaminess of sandalwood but they’re close to the edge feeling like palpable sexual tension is in the air. Pink pepper won’t let us forget it as it lightly bites your shoulder as you inhale the delicious florals deeper.

As Antares final dry down approaches, those spices sink into the petals, giving their sensual purr to the amber base. Antares shaper edges soften becoming creamy with sandalwood planed into smooth shavings. You can feel them support the sensual plump petals of the tuberose and frangipani as their silky waxiness coats the woods and ambers like bed sheets. Antares has a lovely subtle sweetness that runs through it, the florals whisper of tropical creaminess and as amber and sandalwood join in, more balsamic richness is added gently licked by benzoin and vanilla. It’s the tuberose and frangipani that are brightest stars for me in Sofia Bardelli’s beautiful Antares creation. They shine in the night sky and the pink pepper feel like smaller stars sparkling in the far-off distance. Antares isn’t your typical white floral, the spices and amber woods work as a stunning counter point to the soft sensuality of the flowers, almost as if it’s the scent of two lovers embracing.

Antares is a powerful perfume. It’s transparent yet dense making its feel like your sinking into its beauty letting the otherworldly scent envelop you. One to get your nose on if you’re looking for a  white floral perfume with an edge.
